Barbara Cobb hadn’t smiled once since the party began, and the longer she went without offering more in the way of conversation than a polite nod, the more Randy Cobb started to realize something was up. It wasn’t Barbara’s way to be anti-social; she loved events like these, even moreso when Miranda was one of the guests being honored. She’d worked for weeks with Chip’s mother and Hudson’s parents to plan the ultimate graduation bash, an event that was essentially the last party any of the kids would experience as an organic.
“It should have every food imaginable,” she’d said, weeks ago. “Sweet and savory and all those little nuance foods that we can’t taste anymore.”
