Free Book. Small Catch.

Every website you visit wants your email address, and I won't pretend I'm not one of them. But where Wayfair is offering you a 10% coupon on their marked-up prices, I'm offering exclusive literary content, hard-hitting essays about '90s movies, and a free science fiction novella about interdimensional travel and a little girl with blue eyes.

Plus, I like to know you're out there.

The Book

Bartering Nola is a standalone post-apocalyptic novella about a tradesman named Daleon who runs a quiet barter shop in Pickaxe, Montana, trading relics from before The Averaging—a global event that scrubbed human diversity down to sameness. Then a stranger walks in with a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl, and Daleon has to decide how much he's willing to gamble to protect her.

It's got found family, ethical choices, an interdimensional Gate, and just enough of a body count. More importantly, it's a painless way to find out if my particular brand of science fiction is your thing before you commit to a full novel from the Vinestead Anthology. If you like it, there are eight of those waiting for you.

The Catch

You give me your email address, and you get instant access to the download page—EPUB, no strings, works on whatever you read with. After that, I'll show up in your inbox a couple times a month with a newsletter: new stories, essays, the occasional announcement that I've written another novel. I post more often than I email, so consider it the highlights reel. No daily drip campaign, no "just checking in!" I don't like people emailing me for no reason either.
